ESX-3XL (32-bit) programmable controller

Like all other controllers of the ESX family, the ESX®-3XL is also rated for the rough environment of off-highway vehicles.

The ESX®-3XL provides up to 124 software configurable inputs and outputs. Due to the modular design, 72 of the 124 inputs and outputs are customizable and can be configured to create an optimal matching controller for any kind of application.

The base version, with 52 inputs and outputs, provides four CAN interfaces (CANopen) and one EIA-232 (RS-232) serial interface. More CAN or EIA-232 (RS-232) interfaces, as well as other communication interfaces like Flexray or Ethernet can be added easily.

The processor system of the ESX®-3XL, the 150 MHz TC1796 from Infineon, contains 4 MiB of RAM and 6 MiB of Flash. A buzzer for audio alarms and LEDs for status indication help troubleshoot the system without any special software tools.

The system is designed to realize safety related applications according to SIL 2 (ISO 61508 / EN 62061) and PLd (EN ISO 13849-1). Safety features are controlled by a separate, independent micro-controller.

  • High side digital or PWM outputs: 8 x 4,0 A and 16 x 2,5 A PWM outputs. These outputs are separated in three groups each one with eight outputs and its own safety relay.
  • Multi-function inputs: 28 × 0 V to 5 V/10/40V or 0 mA to 20 mA or 0,5 Hz to 20 kHz high/low active
  • Indicators: 4 status LEDs (two colour), Buzzer
  • Temperature rating: Temperature rating from −40 oC to +85 oC (-40 oF to +185 oF)
